Wild thornberrys series#
There's also a room with a small submersible called the Bathysphere that could be launched out the bottom of the ComVee to be used for underwater expeditions (as seen in Rugrats Go Wild!). Welcome to the Wild Thornberrys Wiki, this wiki is all about an American animated television series that aired on Nickelodeon.

The room also includes two hammocks for Darwin and Donnie. Elizabeth 'Eliza' Thornberry (born September 30, 1986) is the series' 12-year-old protagonist whom, unknown to most (with the exception of her older sister Debbie as of the movie ), gained the ability to speak with animals after an encounter with an African shaman, two years prior to the start of the series at the age of ten. The lower level consists of two rooms, one larger room for Marianne and Nigel, the other room with twin beds on opposing walls, the beds for Eliza and Debbie.
Wild thornberrys drivers#
The upper level serves as a driving area in the front, a bed behind the drivers seat (When the Thornberrys have company), the mid-area serves as a kitchen/dining area with a hatch to the sleeping area, and the rear has a bathroom/darkroom/ previewing film area. It serves as their base camp as well as their home as they travel around the world. The ComVee,which is short for Communications Vehicle, is the largest of the equipment the Thornberrys utilizes and is the primary setting in the series. Marianne also utilizes a variety of cameras. The Nickelodeon cartoon series The Wild Thornberrys gets its first feature-length animated film, directed by show creator Cathy Malkasian with a screenplay by. They also have the Mini-Com, and the CongoCom. Will such people stop at nothing? Next thing you know, they'll be permitting snowmobiles in our national parks. The Thornberrys use a variety of equipment on their travels. The movie reaches just a little further than we expect with the addition of characters such as Nigel Thornberry's parents (his mother is not amused to find worms in her tea) and the poachers Bree and Sloan Blackburn ( Marisa Tomei and Rupert Everett), who are not simply villains willing to exterminate hundreds of elephants, but so unashamed about it that their attitude is scarier than their actions. There are other elements in the movie, including a trip to boarding school in England, not enjoyed by either Eliza or Darwin, and various innocent bathroom jokes, mostly involving animals kids have a special fascination for such material, I guess, and here it's handled as tastefully as such tasteless material can be. Eliza is a plucky heroine, determined and brave, and the poachers never really have a chance. The charm of "The Wild Thornberrys Movie" comes from its zany visual style, the energy of the voiceover actors and the fine balance of action that is thrilling but not too scary. Alas, one of the cubs is snatched by poachers in a helicopter, setting up a thrilling adventure in which Eliza eventually saves an entire herd of elephants from extinction.īut of course the story I've described could be told in a dreary, plodding style.

Eliza's best friend is Darwin the monkey ( Tom Kane), who sounds upper-class British and is an analyst of the passing scene.Įliza and Darwin move fearlessly across the plain, protected by her ability to speak to the animals, and one day she persuades Akela the panther ( Alfre Woodard) to let her take her three cubs to play.

Her younger stepbrother, Donnie Thornberry (Michael Balzary, aka Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers), speaks an unknown language, incessantly. Eliza frequently gets herself into situations with animals, sometimes her parents find out about her adventures. The youngest daughter Eliza has the ability to speak with animals. Her parents, Nigel and Marianne ( Tim Curry and Jodi Carlisle), are British, but Eliza is all-American, and her older sister, Debbie ( Danielle Harris), sounds like a Valley Girl ("that's so wrong," she says, confronted with the bright red hind quarters of an ape). The Wild Thornberrys follows the Thornberry family as they travel the world filming exotic animals. Many kids will already know Eliza (voice of Lacey Chabert) and her family.
Wild thornberrys tv#
Cathy Malkasian, the top-billed co-director, has worked on everything from the " Jumanji" TV series to the Nickelodeon version of the "Thornberrys" itself.

The family is drawn in the cheerful, colorful style of "Rugrats," and indeed co-director Jeff McGrath even worked on the "Rugrats" TV series.
