up or down instead of left or right - MagicPrefs will sometimes miss your swiping and that's just frustrating.īut until Apple brings back the 3 finger App Switcher swipe - presumably around when they realize how useless Mission Control is - MagicPrefs is the best answer I've found for MacBook users to get back this essential gesture. You have to do both though - the utility doesn't seem quite as precise as the old gesture used to be - if there are competing 3 and 4 finger swiping gestures, even if they're different, i.e. This is no loss, because those gestures just switch to the useless Mission Control and widgets screen, which no one would ever seriously want to use anyway, much less have a shortcut for.

Then, you need to disable pretty much all of Apple's 3 and 4 finger gestures from the Trackpad settings under the System Preferences menu. This app is the only reliable way to get the App Switcher gesture back.īut the only way I found to have the gesture work *consistently* is to enable all 3 and 4 finger gestures - up, down, left and right - to invoke the App Switcher. Apple for some unimaginable reason removed the three finger App Switcher gesture from OS X Lion, probably in favor of the useless Mission Control feature. This wonderful little utility saved my MacBook.

#Magicprefs app free#
MagicPrefs is a free application for OS X which aims to improve the functionality and configuration options of the Apple Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and the MacBook glass trackpad. TLDR if it doesn't work anymore thats it, if it still works then its just a matter of time until it won't. Apple is not likely to replace the deprecated Api's nor provide access to the underlying multitouch technology so that's the end of the line for MagicPrefs and similar software.

Middle is another 3rd party app that can be used specifically to add. MagicPrefs is more than 5 years old now and is no longer mantained, the functionality it provided was made possible by Api's that are now deprecated and reverse engineered private Apple frameworks. To my knowledge, the application MagicPrefs is no longer supported. This app has been discontinued by its vendor, is now longer supported or developed and may no longer be available for download. Added support for the rechargeable magic mouse and trackpad
